Athlone Institute of Technology

Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT) is an award-winning higher education institution, with more than 6.000 students.

Every year the AIT open its doors to many international students, from diferent countries.

In 2013, the institute received its first brazilians students and over the last few months I could see the atention and preoccupation that the institute has with its international students.

AIT is a very organized institute, with a great structure. The Institute has library, a comfortable canteen, and modern laboratories. 

This week the international students watched lectures on developing of research in the various areas of knowledge in AIT. 

And after this, we had the opportunity to visit laboratories and we have seen up close how is the reality of teaching and research in AIT. 

As a nursing student, I am delighted with the structure of nursing laboratories. The adequate quantity and the quality of equipments available for the training of students  is essential for a acquire practical skills.

Athlone by pictures

Situated at hearth of Ireland, Athlone is a small town, with about 16.000 habitants.

Now i am going to show main places or symbols in this town by pictures.

River Shannon, had a big historic importance, is situated in the town centre and is a good place to enjoy beautiful views and to do a boat trip.

Despite being a small town, Athlone has many facilities and leisure ways: two centre shopping, cinema, teatre, galery, sport centre. Furthermore, Athlone has popular shops and restaurants like Mc Donalds, Burger King, Tesco, Penneys.

Athlone also has lively nights. Always has where to go. Clubs and pubs are very popular among student."Scribes", the pub inside AIT is a great opportunity to meet friends after classes. Is also in Athlone the oldest pub in Ireland, "Sean's bar".

Five reasons to choose Ireland

Ireland is a isle. The third largest isle in Europe. Politically is divided in two countries, the Republic of Ireland (South) and North Ireland, a part of United Kingdom. I have living in Republic of Ireland, that is bigger than North Ireland. Its population is 4,200 millions of people, almost 3 times lower than population of São Paulo city, Brazil.

When i decide go to Ireland, almost everyone asked me:  

-"Why do you chose Ireland? "

Ireland is the choice of many international students every year. And is not dificult understand why: 

1. The english language. The objective of many students, when go to Ireland, is improve their english.  Here have two oficial languages, english and irish. But the english is, without doubts, the more spoken language day-to-day. Although is not so difficult to walk in this country and to found some boards with texts in irish. And, it is not so easy language.

This is AIT logo and its name in Irish.

2. For be a isle, the rain is very common in all seasons in the year. And epecialmente due to rain, almost daily, this is a really beautiful country. It is green in everywhere, everytime, all year (emerald Isle). So, there are many fascinating landscapes.

 

Cliffes of Mother, one of the most amazing places in Ireland, where many films were recorded. Among them, Harry Potter & the Half Blood Prince.  The AIT organized a trip there and surely this is one the most beautiful places I have ever been.

3. "There live the most gentle and friendly people in Europe". I read this phrase in many blogs and websites before I went to Ireland. And now, I completely agree with this statement. And this is much importante because make you feel, for a moment,  right at home.

     

They are irish in Saint Patrick's day.

     4. This is a safe country with friendly peoples, where you can find a mix of sociable life, quality of life and great opportunities to improve your academic skills in well-equipped universities.

     5. Ireland is know for a high quality education. And has many universities among the bests in the world. Among them, AIT, a institute of technology situated in Athlone, a small city in the hearth of Ireland.

     So, surely I made a good choice ;)

Hello everyone!

Hello ;)

I'm Nadyelle Alencar, 20, a nursing student at the Federal University of Piauí (7th semester). Since september 2013 I have lived in Ireland, participating in the Brazilian student mobility programme - Science without Borders.

In this few months that I have stayed in Athlone, i already felt a mix of feelings. When you decide live far from family and friends, you need to grow wings and fly by yourself. You might feel insecure sometimes, but in the ending, you will see that you always were more strong than you had imagined. It is much more than an academic or professional experience. It is an experience for life.

Now, as a student ambassador of Brazil at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT), I am building this blog with the main purpose of helping brazilian students that, just as I, have had the dream of experiencing an exchange, but at the same time has many doubts about which the better choice to make. Which country? Which city? Which university? 

Thus, through my experiences, I will introduce a little about Ireland to you, and I really believe that you will love it. Over this blog, I will talk more about the exchange program , Ireland's curiosities and on the opportunities that the AIT can offer you. This way, I hope help you.
